Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry Job Posting

Description of 1st Presbyterian Church of Lansing, Michigan, and its Vision:  1st Pres sits with a full view of Michigan’s State Capitol in downtown Lansing. We have an active ministry to the community that is vigorous and multi-faceted including the most active food pantry in the area, a community garden, active engagement in racial reconciliation, and other community services/activities. As a downtown, mainline Protestant congregation, we are anxious to engage with younger generations, diverse populations, doubters, and the disenchanted unchurched searching for genuine and relevant faith. We also recognize that communication and engagement has taken on new forms and continues to rapidly evolve.

Position Purpose: The Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry leads, coordinates, plans, and resources the Christian Education and Youth Ministry programs for the children and youth of First Presbyterian Church of Lansing. These programs and activities should build up the children and youth of the church educationally, spiritually, and relationally in fellowship. This mission also serves to quickly integrate and help grow the faith of children and youth who are new to us and integrate them into the life of the church.

Accountability and Staff Relationships: The Director of Christian Education and Youth is supervised by the Pastor as head of staff. The position joins a staff that includes, in addition to the Pastor, an Office Administrator, Custodian, Director of Congregational Life and Outreach, Director of Music, and Pastoral Assistant.

Qualifications: College degree preferred, seminary and other post-graduate training beneficial, especially as it would contribute to knowledge and expertise in Christian Education and Youth Ministry.

Relevant experience preferred.

Background with multi-ethnic environments, urban ministry, or non-traditional church environments beneficial but not required.

Being well versed in using technology to communicate, especially social media tools.

Classification: Part-Time, “at-will”, exempt position.
